Instructions, Set Up and Game Play
Kubb also known as Vikings Chess is a garden game where two teams compete to knock down their opponents kubbs (wooden blocks) and then the king. Players throw batons underhand only, aiming to topple the kubbs. The team that knocks down all opposing kubbs and then the king wins. If a team knocks over the king prematurely then they lose immediately.
A rectangular field is marked out (typically 5m x 8m).
Ten kubbs (baseline kubbs) are placed out, five on each baseline side.
Teams take turns throwing six batons from their baseline, attempting to knock down the opponent's baseline kubbs.
Kubbs knocked down are thrown by the opposing team onto their half of the field and become "field kubbs.
Field kubbs must be knocked down before baseline kubbs.
Batons must be thrown underhand and can't be spun like a helicopter.
The team that knocks down all of the opponent's baseline kubbs first can then attempt to knock over the king.
The first team to knock down all of their opponent's kubbs (both field and baseline) and then the king, wins.
